Does Mediasite support an audio-only player and audio podcast publishing?

Hello,

I would like to know whether Mediasite supports an audio-only player for presentations that contain only an audio file, without any video.

Specifically, I have the following questions:

  1. Does Mediasite provide an audio-only player interface, similar to a podcast player?
  2. Is it possible to publish an audio podcast through Mediasite, for example using an RSS feed or podcast subscription link?
  3. If audio podcast publishing is supported, what are the required settings or steps in Mediasite to enable it?
  4. If Mediasite does not support true audio-only podcast publishing, what is the recommended workaround? For example, should we convert the audio into an MP4 file with a static image?

Thank you.

Hi Arsen - it has been a while but we used the podcast features of Mediasite for a couple of years for a MOOC we ran. I do remember it being quite involved to get right but once it was up and running it worked a treat!

Thank you very much for your reply. Do you happen to remember how you set it up? If you could share the steps or any useful details, I’ll try to replicate the same setup on my end.

I am not 100%, but if you go in to the Management Portal - Publishing - Feeds - Add a new feed and then you can select Audio Podcast and an associated folder for content (if this does not exist you will need to set up first) and then once set up you can go back in and amend the security to add collaborators.

Setting up podcasting

It looks like Pete already got you instructions for setting up a podcasting RSS feed. As far as playing back audio only, those presentations play back in the same player, with just a black screen for video. Other capabilities, such as chapters, speed, skipping forward/back, etc. all work as expected. Let us know if you have any more questions about audio only, we are happy to help!
