Is there a way to easily change ownership of all videos owned by a specific user?

Yes, there’s a really handy tool built into Mediasite for exactly this scenario. It’s called the Change Owner Tool, and it’s perfect for situations like yours where an instructor is leaving and you need to transfer their content over in bulk.

Here’s how to use it:

1. Navigate to the Mediasite Tools page

The tools page lives at the /tools extension of any Mediasite URL. For example:

You’ll land on a page that looks like this:

2. Click on “Change Owner”

This opens the Change Owner tool, which gives you a searchable list of content along with filtering options on the right-hand side.

3. Find the content you want to transfer

Use the search bar to find content owned by the leaving instructor, or use the Filter options on the right to narrow down by content type (Presentations, Folders, Channels, Players, etc.). You can tick the checkboxes next to the items you want to transfer, or select them all in one go.

4. Enter the new owner

In the Enter New Owner field at the top, type the username of the account you want to transfer ownership to. Click the magnifying glass to confirm the account, then click Save to apply the change.

5. Check the Audit Info tab

Once you’ve made the changes, the Audit Info tab gives you a clear record of every ownership change that’s been made. Really useful for keeping track, especially when you’re doing this across 50+ items at once.

A couple of tips:

  • The new owner account needs to already exist in Mediasite before you do the transfer.

  • If your leaving instructor owns more than just presentations (e.g. folders, channels, players), the filter options on the right make it easy to handle each content type in batches.

  • Ownership changes apply immediately, so it’s worth coordinating timing with the instructor’s last day if access continuity matters.
