What are Rooms for?

We use a few Mediasite recorders at our school and I’ve seen Rooms in the dashboard but never really been sure what the usage is for other than organisational?

Hey Marcus,

Rooms are useful for a number of reasons, organisational being one of them. However, the main usage of Rooms in the Mediasite Management portal is to link a Podium PC to a Mediasite Recorder device for usage with Record Now. This allows users in that room, using that Podium PC to control the Mediasite Recorder using a very simple UI.

Here’s an example of using Record Now to create a new ‘Ad-Hoc’ recording via the Mediasite Recorder:

Here’s an example of it recording:

Here’s an example of when it finishes recording:

So simply put, if you have Lecture rooms fitted with recorders and you want to allow an easy to use Ad-Hoc control for your instructors, using Rooms is the way to go!

Hope that helps. If you want to learn more about these, you can either visit our docs page here:

If you need anymore help, I’d be happy to get a Solutions Engineer to reach out to you!

ahhhh! That’s pretty cool. I’ll have to ask my colleagues if they knew about that. I think that might be useful to our workflow actually as we do scheduled content but sometimes try and trigger ad-hoc recordings. :cowboy_hat_face:

Hi Marcus - We use record now in all of our rooms and beyond the Ad Hoc element it is really useful as we only record timetabled Lectures so staff use it for recording elements of seminars and problem solving classes where they deliver the theory before moving on to a more active type session. It is also a really reliable app!
